In an interview in Lokoja on Saturday, Mr. Mohammed Bala, the Technical Assistant on HPV Introduction at John Snow Incorporated (JSI), announced the initiative.
Bala explained that the NPHCDA and JSI, through the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Programme Partners Initiative (HAPPI) project, will provide essential technical support during this campaign.
The week-long program aims to vaccinate girls aged nine to 14 years, a group particularly vulnerable to cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer, a deadly disease that can take about 10 years to develop, is often fatal if not detected and treated early. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Federal Government and its partners to protect young girls from this disease at an early age.
“As we begin the immunization exercise in Kogi on Monday, May 27, we plan to cover all 21 local government areas with the HPV vaccine for the targeted girls,” Bala stated.
He also urged parents, guardians, religious and community leaders, and other stakeholders to help raise awareness and encourage the girls to get vaccinated for a healthier future. (NAN)
