Pastor Charged With Murder After Alleged Fatal Stabbing Of Wife In Anambra

The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, has initiated an investigation into the suspected murder of Ogechukwu Okafor, who is alleged to have been killed by her husband, Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi, a pastor.

The incident, which occurred on August 13, 2024, came to light only after the deceased’s family raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the information in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Ikeanyionwu, the incident took place in Nimo community within the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The statement outlined that Mr. Samuel Onuorah, the deceased’s uncle from Abatete community, lodged the complaint with the ministry. Onuorah reported receiving a call from Ibeabuchi claiming that Ogechukwu had fallen from a four-story building and died.

However, Onuorah and other family members discovered discrepancies in Ibeabuchi’s account. They found that Ogechukwu had been fatally stabbed in the neck and chest, rather than falling from a height. This was confirmed upon visiting the mortuary where Ibeabuchi had deposited Ogechukwu’s body.

In response, Commissioner Ify Obinabo has called on women’s organizations, human rights advocates, and social media users to rally for justice in this case. She assured that the state government will conduct a thorough investigation and pursue justice for the deceased. Obinabo also committed to keeping the state governor informed about the case and promised that the matter will be handled with the utmost seriousness until justice is served.
