Patience Ozokwor Sends Strong Message To Parents Over Raising Children

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has advised parents against shielding their children completely from hardship and hard work, warning that doing so could negatively affect their future.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Ozokwor made the remarks during a recent interview with media personality Femi Baba, where she argued that parents should allow their children to experience challenges and learn the value of working for themselves.

The actress, popularly known as Mama G, recalled an experience involving her son, whom she said she once asked to leave her home so he could become independent and work towards providing a house for himself.

Ozokwor explained that she deliberately raised her children with discipline and an understanding of hard work, adding that she believes those values have contributed to how well they are doing today.

She cautioned parents against trying to spare their children from every difficulty simply because they experienced hardship while growing up. According to her, excessive protection could leave children unprepared to cope with life when their parents are no longer around.

The veteran actress also warned that children who grow up without learning independence may eventually struggle with managing family wealth and could become involved in disputes over their parents’ property.

Meanwhile, Ozokwor has also spoken about her personal experiences, including the challenges she encountered after getting married at the age of 19.

In a separate interview with media personality Isbae U, the actress described her early years of marriage as difficult, noting that she was young and unprepared for the responsibilities that came with becoming a wife.

Despite the challenges she experienced, Ozokwor said her children later became a major source of happiness and purpose in her life. She reflected on how life can take unexpected turns and how people can eventually discover meaning and fulfilment in experiences that were initially painful.

The actress also expressed gratitude for her life and highlighted the important role her children and family have played in her journey, while encouraging parents to raise children who can stand on their own and appreciate the value of hard work.
