PDP Expresses Outrage Over Herdsmen Violence In Benue, Demands Accountability From Alia AdministrationThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the recent attacks by Fulani herdsmen on communities in Anyiin, Logo, and parts of Buruku and Agatu Local Government Areas in Benue State. The condemnation was expressed in a statement released on Friday by Mr. Tim Nyor, the Publicity Secretary of the Benue chapter of the party.

Nyor stated that these attacks have led to the tragic loss of numerous lives and the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

The statement read, “The party extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. It is utterly unacceptable that innocent citizens continue to endure such brutal violence while those tasked with their protection, including the government and security forces, fail to fulfill their responsibilities.”

The PDP also expressed concern over the apparent inaction and silence of the APC-led government under Governor Hyacinth Alia. “The government’s failure to address these recurring attacks is alarming and reflects its indifference to the safety and welfare of the people of Benue State.”

Despite the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, the PDP noted with dismay that grazing persists alongside a troubling rise in violence within communities. “This law was enacted to safeguard our communities and promote peaceful coexistence, yet the blatant disregard for it reveals a lack of commitment from state authorities to confront these challenges.”

The party voiced its disappointment with the state government, criticizing its quickness to detain individuals for minor accusations while failing to take decisive action against the attacks. “A government that can clamp down on its citizens but cannot effectively condemn violence is a classic definition of failure.”

The PDP is calling for immediate intervention and comprehensive measures to protect Benue communities, ensure accountability for the herdsmen’s actions, and strengthen enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Law. The party has also urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene promptly to prevent further bloodshed in Benue due to the apparent inefficiency of Governor Alia’s administration, despite substantial federal allocations and security funding.
