PDP Hits Back Hard: “Ringim’s Outbursts Are Desperate Cries Over Political Irrelevance

The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded strongly to accusations by Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, the 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), accusing him of launching a smear campaign against former Governor Sule Lamido.

Lamido recently released his autobiography titled “Being True to Myself,” which chronicles key political developments in Nigeria—from the late Second Republic and military regimes to the birth of the Fourth Republic.

While addressing supporters in Taura Local Government Area on Wednesday, Ringim criticized the book, claiming Lamido distorted historical facts and misrepresented events in his political journey.

In a statement signed by the PDP’s Jigawa State Publicity Secretary, Umar Kiyari, the party described Ringim’s remarks as desperate and baseless. It alleged that Ringim was on a mission to spread misinformation across local governments in a futile effort to revive his dwindling political relevance after what it called a disastrous performance in the 2023 elections.

Kiyari said, “It is deeply regrettable—and indeed embarrassing—that someone considered a longstanding political actor in Jigawa could only garner just over 35,000 votes statewide.”

He continued, “This poor electoral result is a clear indication that the people of Jigawa overwhelmingly rejected both Ringim and the NNPP.

“Instead of accepting the people’s decision with grace, Ringim has resorted to peddling falsehoods and engaging in cheap political propaganda.

“His recent comments are nothing but an emotional reaction to the harsh political reality he refuses to come to terms with.”
