PDP Knew!’ – APC Speaks Out On Wike’s Ministerial Appointment

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) approved the appointment of Nyesom Wike as a minister in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Yilwatda made this known on Wednesday during a media briefing in Abuja while addressing questions about Wike’s continued affiliation with the PDP despite serving in an APC-led government.

He explained that Wike’s appointment is not unusual, noting that previous administrations had also brought in opposition figures to serve in key positions.

To support his point, he cited examples such as Bala Mohammed and Adamu Aliero, who were appointed as ministers of the Federal Capital Territory by past PDP-led governments despite belonging to other political parties at the time.

According to him, former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Bala Mohammed based on merit, while former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua selected Aliero for his experience.

Yilwatda argued that the criticism directed at President Tinubu over Wike’s appointment is misplaced, insisting that similar decisions in the past did not attract such backlash.

He also pointed out that other opposition figures, including Bianca Ojukwu, are serving in the current administration, questioning why attention has been largely focused on Wike.

The APC chairman further disclosed that Wike formally wrote to the PDP’s National Working Committee in 2023 to seek approval before accepting the ministerial role, adding that the request was granted.

He maintained that Wike’s participation in the Tinubu administration is backed by the PDP, stressing that the decision originated from the opposition party rather than the APC.
