North Is With Me’ – Atiku Sends Strong Message Ahead Of Presidential Race
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed confidence that he will enjoy strong support from the northern region in the 2027 general elections.
He made the statement on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise News Prime Time programme, where he fielded questions on national politics and his electoral prospects.
Atiku noted that the North remains his strongest political base, pointing to the 2023 elections where he secured victories in more northern states compared to other presidential candidates.
He also said the region appears more politically united now than in previous election cycles.
According to him, “The North still remains my major political base because I won more northern states than many other states. I won only two in the South-West. I don’t think I won any in the South-East. Even politically, the North appears much more united now than ever. The majority of the North will always come together.”
He further added that different regions have their political leanings, stating that while the North is his base, the South-East and South-South also have their preferred political figures.
In a related development, Atiku has also accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission), Professor Joash Amupitan, of alleged wrongdoing.
He made the allegation during the African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress) national convention in Abuja, claiming that the electoral body is being misused in ways that could undermine democratic processes.
