PDP Tickets Not Reserved For Anyone – Sowunmi Responds Ahead Of 2027 ElectionsA prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has asserted that the party’s presidential ticket is not reserved for any individual. Sowunmi dismissed the notion that the PDP’s presidential ticket is awarded to favored candidates, clarifying that it can only be won through a competitive and well-organized primary process. He contrasted this with other political parties, where tickets are sometimes seen as being reserved for certain individuals, a practice he stressed does not apply in the PDP.

“We, in the PDP, have structures for primaries. We don’t just give out tickets, contrary to what some people may think,” Sowunmi said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “If you want to run in our party, I’m not talking about the smaller parties where there are always perpetual candidates, you will have to go through the rigors of a primary. Once the votes are counted and you win, that’s it. But let me be clear, the PDP ticket is not reserved for anyone.”

Sowunmi also touched on the political future of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, expressing uncertainty about his intentions for the 2027 presidential race. He revealed that he had asked Atiku twice about his plans to run again but had yet to receive a response.
