Press Release
In yet another act of political violence, thugs allegedly loyal to the PDP have launched a brutal attack on the campaign of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate, at Ugbekpe Ekperi Ward 6 in Etsako Central Local Government. This attack follows the APC candidate’s successful rallies in Anegbette and Udaba and marks the third time Senator Okpebholo has been targeted by such cowardly ambushes.
This escalating violence is a clear attempt to undermine democracy in Edo State. It is evident that elements within the PDP, fearing their impending defeat, have resorted to desperate measures. This latest assault is part of a broader campaign of terror, including the tragic murder of Inspector Akor Onu in Benin and the destruction of APC campaign vehicles in Akoko Edo.
We can no longer remain silent while Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government arms youths and incites violence, turning Edo State into a battlefield. The people of Edo deserve peace, progress, and a fair election, free from intimidation and bloodshed. The PDP’s obsession with clinging to power at all costs is pushing the state toward chaos.
These attacks on Senator Okpebholo, a leader committed to peace and development, expose the PDP’s true colors—an administration that has lost the trust of the people and now resorts to criminality and terror. Instead of providing leadership, the Edo State government is arming young men and sowing violence, betraying the trust of the people they swore to serve.
We challenge Governor Obaseki and the PDP to publicly denounce these barbaric acts and ensure a peaceful election. The safety of Edo’s citizens must be a top priority, and any government that fails to protect its people has failed entirely.
Despite these attacks, Senator Monday Okpebholo remains unwavering in his vision for a prosperous Edo State. The people of Edo will not be swayed by violence and intimidation. We call on all citizens to reject these acts of terror and support Senator Okpebholo, a leader who has proven his commitment to leading Edo State toward greatness.
The violence must stop. Those responsible must face justice. Edo cannot be plunged into lawlessness because one party refuses to accept defeat. The voices of the people must be heard at the ballot, not silenced through violence.
We urge security agencies to swiftly investigate and prosecute those involved in these attacks. Edo must rise above this chaos, and with Senator Monday Okpebholo, a brighter and more peaceful future is within reach.
