To raise awareness about the hazards of lithium-ion batteries, the Tulsa Fire Department released footage of the event. In the video, a dog chews on a battery cable, leading to an explosion and a subsequent fire.
“Lithium-ion batteries are compact but store a large amount of energy,” TFD explained. “If this energy is released uncontrollably, it can generate intense heat, produce flammable and toxic gases, and potentially cause explosions.”
The CCTV footage shows two dogs and a cat in the living room. One dog chews on the battery pack until it bursts, igniting the house. Fortunately, the fire department quickly extinguished the blaze.
All the pets were able to escape the fire through a dog door.
