Referring to the recent murder of the Emir of Gobir by kidnappers and the subsequent abduction of 150 individuals and theft of 1,000 cattle by bandits, Obi described the situation as a national emergency. He condemned the government’s failure to address these security issues effectively and called for immediate action rather than mere rhetoric.
“Following the tragic murder of the Emir of Gobir, my earlier expressions of sorrow now seem inadequate to capture the enormity of our loss. This recent atrocity underscores the severe decline of our state. The terrorists’ return to the emir’s area to abduct more people and steal cattle is a stark indicator of our crumbling security. We are left vulnerable, with a largely ineffective government to defend us. This crisis is beyond tragedy; it is a national emergency,” Obi stated.
He urged for decisive measures to tackle insecurity, food crises, and poverty, stressing that the time for empty statements has passed. “It is crucial for us to take collective action. We cannot remain passive while our country deteriorates. We must reaffirm our commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians. Enough is enough,” Obi concluded on his X platform account.
