Peter Obi Issues Bold Challenge To Anambra Govt: “Prove We Owed Money And I’ll Quit My Presidential Campaign

Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Obi has rejected claims by the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo that the state is still servicing debts incurred during his tenure.

Obi challenged the Anambra State Government to provide evidence of any outstanding debt allegedly left by his administration, saying he would end his 2027 presidential campaign if such a claim could be established.

The issue followed comments by Anambra State Commissioner for Finance, Izuchukwu Okafor, who said the current administration was still repaying loans obtained by previous administrations, including those of Obi and his successor, Willie Obiano.

Okafor reportedly disclosed that deductions continue to be made from the state’s monthly federal allocation to service the inherited liabilities. He made the statement during an interview on the Voice of Ndi Anambra Podcast, published online by Anambra State New Media.

Reacting to the allegation on his social media platforms, Obi dismissed the claim and maintained that he left office without outstanding obligations to workers, contractors or suppliers.

Obi said:

“I left office as Governor nearly 13 years ago. On the day I left office, I was not owing any salaries, pensions, gratuities, or any money that the Anambra State Government was supposed to pay. I did not owe a single supplier or contractor. If you find even one person I owed, I will end my 2027 campaign today.”
