Peter Obi Makes Fresh Revelation: “This Is Why I Shut Down The Office Of First Lady

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has recalled his decision to shut down the Office of the First Lady during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

Obi explained that he took the step because he believed public funds should not be used to maintain an office that was not established through an electoral mandate.

The former Anambra governor made the disclosure during an interview with Advocacy for Good Governance, where he discussed his approach to managing government resources while in office.

According to Obi, he told his wife that she was not elected by the people and, therefore, should not function as though she held an official government position.

He said he preferred that she remain at home while he concentrated on carrying out the responsibilities for which he was elected.

Obi added that the decision reflected his broader view that government resources should be directed towards sectors that have a direct impact on citizens, particularly education and healthcare.

He said:

“I shut down (the) office of the first lady; I said it should not exist. Because nobody voted for you, you’re just my wife, and I love you. So you stay at home with me.”
