Peter Obi Reveals To Dalung The ‘Real Enemy’ Destroying Nigeria’s Democracy
Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has revealed that former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term in office stems from his personal philosophy on governance, not from any arrangement with the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Trust TV on Sunday, Dalung explained that Obi once told him during a private conversation that the quest for a second term has been one of the major factors undermining Nigeria’s democracy.
According to Dalung, Obi said, “The idea of a single term has nothing to do with coalition. It is simply my conviction. I believe what has destroyed our democracy is the obsession with a second term. A single term is enough to make an impact—whatever you want to achieve, you can do it within that time.”
Dalung added that Obi believes leaders often become distracted by re-election ambitions, abandoning governance as early as their second year in office to focus on political manoeuvring.
Recently, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to serve just four years if elected president in 2027, insisting he does not need eight years to transform the nation.
His single-term stance has sparked widespread debate in Nigeria’s political arena, with critics accusing him of being overly eager to lead, while supporters laud him for demonstrating sincerity and focus.
