Drama In Sokoto! EFCC Grills Ex-Governor Tambuwal Over Corruption Allegations Nigerians React
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently interrogating former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, at its headquarters in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to New Telegraph, Tambuwal is under investigation over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to ₦189 billion — transactions said to be in clear breach of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Sources revealed that the former governor arrived at the EFCC office around 11:30 a.m. and has since been facing intense questioning over the alleged financial misconduct. EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponizing the EFCC against opposition figures. In a Monday statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that the commission’s recent actions — including reviving old cases and summoning opposition leaders — are politically driven.
“The EFCC was established to protect Nigerians’ trust by applying the law fairly to all, regardless of political affiliation. Sadly, that principle appears compromised,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC further claimed that the EFCC now operates “like an APC department,” shielding ruling party members from scrutiny while relentlessly targeting government critics.
Citing an example, the party alleged that a former governor who defected to the APC, along with his state’s political structure, has seen all corruption probes against him quietly vanish. “No questions asked, no documents leaked, no updates given. In today’s Nigeria, guilt or innocence seems tied to party membership, not evidence,” Abdullahi concluded.
