In a statement personally signed by the former Governor of Anambra State and released via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Obi pointed out that Nigeria is currently grappling with a concerning pattern of widespread corruption, constitutional violations, disregard for the rule of law, and transactional politics that permeate all three branches of government.
Nevertheless, Obi affirmed his commitment to offering the leadership that Nigeria urgently requires, as he firmly believes in the possibility of a better Nigeria. He urged the country’s citizens not to lose hope despite the ongoing challenges.
The LP presidential candidate made these reflections and declarations in a statement marking the occasion of the 2023 International Democracy Day.
In his words, “On this year’s observance of International Democracy Day, we must remind ourselves of the imperative to collaborate in strengthening and advancing our nation’s democracy.
“As witnessed in the current state of the country, the distressing erosion of the very principles and foundations upon which Nigeria’s democracy was established, if left unchecked, will only propel the nation further into lawlessness.
“The present trajectory characterized by endemic corruption, constitutional infractions, disrespect for the rule of law, and transactional politics, which permeates the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government, continues to pose challenges to the enforcement of democracy in our nation.”
