Plateau Tension: Soldiers K!ll Suspected Militia Member After Female Miners Murder

Troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have reportedly killed a suspected Fulani militia member and recovered two motorcycles following an exchange of fire with suspected attackers in Plateau State.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the incident occurred on September 28, 2026, after three female civilian miners were attacked at an illegal mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources said troops received a distress call at about 5 p.m. reporting an attack on civilians at the mining location. Upon arriving at the scene, the troops reportedly found that three female miners had been shot by suspected members of a Fulani militia.

Two of the victims reportedly died at the scene, while the third sustained gunshot injuries and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi for treatment. However, unconfirmed reports later indicated that the surviving victim may have died while receiving medical attention.

The bodies of the two victims who died at the scene were reportedly taken to the mortuary of the same hospital.

Following the attack, troops launched an operation to locate the suspected perpetrators. The security personnel later encountered suspected militia members at Rungan Jallo, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, troops reportedly killed one suspected militia member and recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the attackers.

The exchange of fire also reportedly led to a fire that engulfed about seven huts in Digan Jallo.

Security personnel have continued to patrol and search the surrounding area in an effort to locate other suspects who reportedly fled during the confrontation.
