This response follows widespread reports alleging that police and other security agencies barricaded the PDP secretariat, thereby obstructing the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and further escalating tensions within the opposition party.
In a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the Command described the reports as “false and misleading,” urging the public to disregard them.
“The FCT Police Command is aware of the reports circulating online, claiming that police sealed the PDP Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. We categorically state that this information is inaccurate and does not represent the actual situation,” the statement read.
Adeh clarified that the officers were deployed solely for the purpose of maintaining law and order, in accordance with their constitutional duties.
“At no point did the Police seal off the Secretariat,” she emphasized.
She also urged journalists and media organizations to verify their information, especially on sensitive security issues, before publication.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, advises media platforms to confirm such details through the Command’s Public Relations Office before broadcasting,” Adeh added.
