According to reports, Mark had checked into the hotel with another individual when he suddenly slumped in their presence. He was quickly rushed to the Asokoro District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Abuja police have since detained both the individual who was with him at the time and the hotel receptionist as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident.
In a statement released on Sunday night, October 20, 2024, Fani-Kayode expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his aide, describing Mark as a devoted Catholic who had left home early on the day of his death to attend morning Mass at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Asokoro. After the service, he proceeded to the Mildy Lodge and Apartments hotel, where the unfortunate incident occurred.
Fani-Kayode has called for a full investigation into Mark’s death, stressing his commitment to uncovering any potential foul play. He confirmed that the police have sealed the hotel room where the incident took place and have questioned the hotel’s manager and owner. In his heartfelt tribute, the former minister said, “Mark was like a son to me, and his passing is a huge blow to my family. He was a kind, reliable, and compassionate soul who touched many lives. I will ensure justice is served if foul play is involved and will stand by his family during this difficult time.”
Mark leaves behind a wife, Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark, and two young children. Fani-Kayode expressed his condolences to the family and assured them of his unwavering support during this tragic period.
