In a statement released on X.com on Friday, Adejobi cited Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act, which defines the legal repercussions for receiving stolen items obtained through felony or misdemeanour.

According to Adejobi, “Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act stipulates that anyone who knowingly receives goods obtained through criminal acts, whether felony or misdemeanour, commits a felony.” The penalty varies based on the severity of the offence, ranging from imprisonment for fourteen years to life imprisonment in certain cases involving valuable items like postal matter or valuable securities.

Adejobi emphasized the legal implications, stating, “It is sufficient to prove the crime of receiving stolen goods by demonstrating possession, aiding in concealment, or participating in their disposal.”

He strongly advised Nigerians to exercise caution and refrain from handling or purchasing items of uncertain origin. Adejobi emphasized that involvement in such activities could lead to serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.

In conclusion, Adejobi reiterated, “Receiving stolen property is a criminal offence. It is crucial not to receive, possess, or buy items unless their origins are absolutely certain. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”
