A couple was lynched by a mob in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, over allegations of motorcycle theft. The incident occurred on Monday, September 2, when the couple was accused of stealing motorcycles and was subsequently set on fire by angry youths.

Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident and condemned the act of mob justice. Speaking to Punch on Thursday, September 5, Okoye emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle such matters. He urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to instead report suspects to the police for proper investigation.

According to local sources, the couple had been known in the community and operated in nearby villages. They were apprehended while attempting to steal a motorcycle from a motorcyclist. The source noted that the couple’s criminal activities were previously unknown to the community, but they had been involved in multiple motorcycle thefts.
