In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP explained that the restructuring is part of his broader commitment to reinforcing Nigeria’s internal security framework.
Egbetokun noted that the move followed a thorough review of the security realities in Benue, particularly in crisis-prone Local Government Areas where stronger police presence and additional deployments are urgently required.
The newly created Area Commands include the Daudu Area Command, which will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Divisions, and the Naka Area Command, which will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Divisions.
Additionally, the Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan Police Stations have now been upgraded to Divisional Headquarters. According to the IGP, this adjustment will enhance response to emergencies, enable quicker conflict resolution, and bring policing services closer to grassroots communities for better security outcomes.
He urged the Benue State Commissioner of Police and officers assigned to the new formations to uphold professionalism and renewed dedication in safeguarding lives and property across the affected areas.
Egbetokun also directed Police Commissioners in other states with similar security and terrain challenges to adopt practical, community-driven strategies that ensure more effective policing in their jurisdictions.
Finally, he appealed to the Benue State Government and residents to continue supporting the Police, stressing that partnership between the Force and the public is vital for sustainable peace and improved service delivery.
