The Lagos State Police Command has emphasized its commitment to a thorough investigation into the death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. This comes in response to demands from the Take It Back Movement, a civil society organization, during a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos. The group urged the police to expedite the investigation and release its findings promptly. Omolola Pedro, the Head of the Gender Department of the organization, expressed concerns about potential harm to Mohbad’s wife and child due to prolonged delays in the investigation.
Pedro called on the police to cease unnecessary delays, disclose the findings of the investigation, and ensure the protection of the rights of the deceased’s family. The organization highlighted the potential risks of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and organized malicious campaigns against Mohbad’s wife and child, drawing parallels to the challenges faced by the late singer during his lifetime.
In response to these concerns, Hundeyin reiterated that the police cannot engage in guesswork and emphasized the need for the pathologists’ report to conclude their investigation. He stated that until the autopsy report is provided, the police cannot speculate on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
Mohbad’s death on September 12 sparked widespread controversies, leading the police to establish an investigative team to ascertain the cause of the singer’s demise. Despite an earlier announcement in September that the autopsy had been concluded, the police are still awaiting the official report as of November.
