Fayose, however, noted that although Peter Obi is widely respected and politically influential, his chances of becoming president at this time remain slim.
Speaking at the PDP National Convention, he described Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, as a strong political figure capable of shaping election outcomes.
He cautioned that the ADC could struggle significantly if Obi does not secure its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that the party’s strength may depend heavily on his participation.
According to Fayose, Obi’s impact during the 2023 elections was substantial, but the ADC may find it difficult to maintain momentum without him as its flag bearer.
He also suggested that with shifting political alignments, including the return of Rabiu Kwankwaso to the party, Obi’s influence alone may not be enough if he is not leading the platform.
The former governor ruled out the possibility of Obi returning to the Labour Party, citing internal divisions within the party.
Obi had earlier left the Peoples Democratic Party in May 2022 to join the Labour Party, where he contested the 2023 presidential election, finishing behind President Bola Tinubu and closely trailing Atiku Abubakar.
Fayose argued that Obi’s popularity is largely personal rather than tied to any political party, adding that he could still make a significant impact even if he joined another platform such as the Accord Party.
He maintained that while Obi is a capable and admirable politician, the path to the presidency for him at this moment appears challenging.
