Political Drama: Malami Reveals EFCC’s Plan Against Him
The detention saga surrounding former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), has escalated, with Malami now accusing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of deliberately obstructing his ability to meet bail conditions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Muhammed Bello Doka, Malami described the administrative bail requirements set by the EFCC as “stringent and practically impossible to fulfill.”
Malami’s team rejected the EFCC’s claim that he had denied himself bail by failing to satisfy the prescribed conditions.
Doka argued that the conditions—which reportedly demand federal permanent secretaries as sureties—were intentionally designed to be unattainable.
“Such conditions are deliberately used by the EFCC to prolong his detention while claiming he refused bail. From the outset, Malami was ready to comply, but the commission denied him the chance to do so,” Doka stated.
He further noted that requiring a federal permanent secretary to serve as a surety for someone under government investigation is virtually impossible.
Doka emphasized Malami’s reputation as a law-abiding citizen who has never attempted to evade investigation, insisting that any claims to the contrary originated from the EFCC, not the former minister.
Malami’s camp called on the EFCC to abandon what they describe as a media-driven narrative suggesting he refused bail and instead establish attainable bail conditions that he can meet.
