Political Earthquake: Aliyu Says Opposition Parties Will Be Wiped Out

Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu, has asserted that no opposition party in Nigeria can stop the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from retaining power in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Aliyu, in an interview with African Independent Television (AIT) on Monday, dismissed recent visits by opposition figures to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing them as inconsequential.
According to him, the opposition has failed to play its role effectively and lacks the strength to challenge the ruling party. He recalled how the APC, during its days as the opposition, was able to stall the government and eventually take over power in 2015—a feat he believes the current opposition is incapable of replicating.
“There’s no real opposition in this country anymore. When we were in the opposition, we grounded the system. Now, they’re busy running to our own former president. That’s not how you challenge power,” Aliyu said.
He further emphasized that the APC will not sit back and allow the opposition to regroup or build momentum.
“We won’t just watch them form alliances. We’ll keep putting ‘sand in their garri’. If they think they can swallow it, they’re welcome to try.”
When asked if the APC is involved in fueling the internal crises of opposition parties, Aliyu admitted, to an extent, that his party plays a role.
“To some extent, yes—we’re involved. We won’t just allow them to come and unseat us. We’ll make it difficult. No viable opposition exists today that can defeat us,” he added.
Responding to a comment that the PDP did not sabotage the APC when it was in opposition, Aliyu bluntly replied:
“That was their own choice. We won’t be that naïve. We’ll put not only sand, but also stones in their garri.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to make their decision at the polls in 2027, stating:
“If the people believe we’re not doing well, let them vote us out. No need for fights—just wait for the elections.”
