The Press Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Isaiah Davies Ijele, has accused the Senate and the Kogi State Government of fearing suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan due to her strong grassroots support.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Ijele alleged that the Kogi State Government’s recent ban on public gatherings ahead of Natasha’s homecoming rally was driven by political intimidation rather than security concerns. He dismissed the government’s justification as a mere excuse, emphasizing that Natasha’s growing popularity was the real reason behind the restriction.

The SDP chieftain further criticized the state government for its inconsistent approach to security issues, citing a 2024 massacre in Omala Local Government Area where over 32 people were killed. Despite the tragic incident, no curfew or rally ban was imposed, contrasting sharply with the sudden restriction targeting Natasha’s rally.

Expressing his frustration, Ijele stated, “They are jittery. They fear Natasha’s charisma, influence, and her undeniable connection with the grassroots. Among the current senators, Natasha stands out as someone who has genuinely won elections, without the manipulative tactics used against us in 2023. That is why they fear her.”

Ijele also highlighted the dire situation in his hometown, Bagana, where bandits have destroyed every building, displacing residents for over two years without any significant government intervention. He condemned the government for prioritizing political suppression while neglecting insecurity in hotspots like Ejule and Aloma, which remain plagued by kidnapping and banditry.

He concluded, “For the past two years, people have been living in IDP camps, but the Kogi State Government has never declared a state of emergency in the affected local government. Yet, they swiftly declared it in Ihima, where no lives have been lost.”
