Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) has announced plans to implement a peace accord involving chairmen from ten political parties ahead of the local government elections scheduled for July 13. The commission, under the leadership of Dr. Jerry Agbaike, revealed this during a capacity building workshop for journalists in Asaba, Delta State’s capital. This initiative is in collaboration with the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Dr. Agbaike emphasized DSIEC’s commitment to upholding equity, justice, fairness, and high integrity as impartial arbiters. He underscored the commission’s mandate to conduct elections that are free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful.

Regarding the selection of ad-hoc staff for the upcoming elections, Dr. Agbaike highlighted that they must not hold membership in any political party and must possess impeccable character. Additionally, they should demonstrate impartiality towards political aspirants and parties, and have no criminal records.

Furthermore, DSIEC is working closely with security and law enforcement agencies to mitigate political threats, ensure adequate security measures, and guarantee a peaceful electoral process.
