Presidency Defends Seyi Tinubu’s Right To Engage In Legitimate Business Ventures, Counters Atiku’s Criticism

The Presidency has responded to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s criticism, asserting Seyi Tinubu’s right to engage in legitimate business activities anywhere globally.

This statement was issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.

Atiku Abubakar had raised concerns about the contract awarded to Hitech Construction Company Ltd for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, citing a perceived conflict of interest due to Seyi Tinubu’s directorship at CDK Integrated Industries, a subsidiary of the Chagoury Group, which owns Hitech.

In rebuttal, the Presidency accused Atiku of hypocrisy on various national matters. Onanuga emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s eligibility to participate in lawful business pursuits, despite his father’s presidential status.

He clarified that Seyi Tinubu joined CDK’s board in 2018, representing an investor company’s interests, and not solely due to familial ties.

The Presidency found Atiku’s allegations ironic, citing his own business dealings while serving in public office, including forming Intels Nigeria, a breach of regulations. They highlighted Atiku’s approval of major port concession deals during his vice presidency and his continued ties to Intels.

Contrary to Atiku’s assertions, the Presidency clarified that CDK’s Chairman and primary shareholder is General TY Danjuma (rtd), not the Chagourys. They emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s autonomy as a 38-year-old to engage in lawful business activities.

The statement underscored the public availability of CDK’s ownership details, dismissing Atiku’s claims as unfounded and recycled information.

In conclusion, the Presidency questioned the alleged conflict between Seyi Tinubu’s CDK directorship and Hitech Construction Company’s involvement in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal project.

The response aimed to address Atiku’s concerns while defending Seyi Tinubu’s business rights within legal boundaries.
