The President emphasized that the demise of these distinguished members of the bench comes at a time when the judiciary requires more competent, erudite, and learned justices, prompting the need for somber reflection.
Tinubu also extended his sympathies to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariowoola, and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, over the loss of their esteemed colleagues.
In his statement, President Tinubu said, “I extend my condolences to the families of our two departed eminent jurists, Supreme Court Justice Chima Centus Nweze and Federal High Court Justice, Peter Mallong. I am saddened by these two unfortunate deaths occurring simultaneously.
These transitions have deprived our judiciary of capable, erudite, and learned justices at a time when we need more honorable and capable individuals to lead the courts. I also send my condolences to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on the loss of their esteemed colleagues.
May God grant the families of the deceased the comfort and strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of their loved ones. May their co-workers in the temple of justice find solace and resilience.”
