In the last three months, I haven’t taken a penny from NNPC before fulfilling my other obligations. To me, that’s excellent,” Tinubu said with a smile, admitting he was in “brag mode.

Tinubu: ‘I Raised Minimum Wage to ₦70,000 to Combat Corruption’
In the same media session, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption in all its forms.
He explained that raising the minimum wage to ₦70,000 was part of a broader strategy to combat corruption in the country. “Corruption in all its forms is harmful to the people, but first, we must address its root causes,” Tinubu said. He pointed to factors like the lack of social amenities, insufficient funds, and challenges like education costs that often drive people to corrupt practices.
Tinubu added, “There are many anti-corruption measures that can help people avoid corruption, and paying them fair, livable wages is one of them. By raising the minimum wage from ₦35,000 to ₦70,000, I see that as a step against corruption.”
Further addressing corruption, the President explained that his administration has increased financial allocations to state and local governments and has embraced transparency by publicly sharing the government’s monthly revenue. He emphasized that while eliminating corruption entirely is difficult, it can be minimized by addressing people’s basic needs.
“It’s hard to say you can eliminate corruption, but we can reduce it to the barest minimum by meeting the people’s needs,” Tinubu concluded.
