Umahi disclosed that the President has given a directive for the immediate commencement of rehabilitation work on the roads to enhance smoother and more accessible transportation of people and goods. This initiative aims to save valuable man-hours lost due to the deteriorated state of the roads.

Despite grappling with a substantial N6 trillion deficit in road infrastructure, President Tinubu, according to Umahi, is resolute in addressing the challenge proactively, demonstrating determination rather than complaint.

Umahi further outlined that President Tinubu has approved a ₦300 billion supplementary budget for the Ministry of Works in 2023.

This allocation includes ₦100 billion for prompt palliative measures across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and ₦200 billion for the continuation of ongoing projects and a few critical new road projects inherited from the previous administration.

Noteworthy roads earmarked for attention include the Makurdi-Nsukka 9th Mile Road, East-West Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Benin bypass road, collapsed bridges of Enugu-Port Harcourt road, collapsed bridges of Shandam-Plateau State, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road, and Gombe-Bauchi, among others.

President Tinubu has issued specific directives to the Ministry on project execution, setting a timeframe for immediate palliative works to commence before December 1, 2023.

Additionally, the President encourages public participation in overseeing the projects, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility and feedback to the government.

Umahi underscored, “Mr. President has just approved a 2023 Supplementary budget of ₦300B for the Ministry of Works comprising of ₦100B for immediate palliative works in 36 States and FCT and ₦200B for the continuation of most of the inherited ongoing projects and very few new but critical road projects.

He highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to sustainable road infrastructure development across the nation, emphasizing plans for commitment, consistency, and innovation in addressing road infrastructure challenges.
