Rangers Make Major Home-Ground Switch As Enugu Stadium Renovation Continues

Nigeria champions Rangers International have confirmed Awka City Stadium as their home ground for the 2026/27 EuroMatch-NPFL season.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the nine-time Nigerian league champions will return to Awka as they await the completion of renovation work at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Rangers Chief Executive Officer, Amobi Ezeaku, confirmed the decision on September 18, stating that the club would play its home matches in Awka during the new campaign.

The Flying Antelopes previously used Awka City Stadium as their home venue during the 2022/23 abridged NPFL season.

Rangers began the current campaign away from Enugu, securing a 1-1 draw against Katsina United at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. The club subsequently hosted Nasarawa United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri in a Matchday 3 encounter that was suspended in the 63rd minute following heavy rainfall.

The match resumed later, with Rangers completing a 2-1 comeback victory. Nasarawa United took the lead through Sunday Dapman in the 39th minute, but Chidozie Iwundu restored parity just two minutes later. Daniel Itodo then completed the comeback by scoring eight minutes before the end of regulation time, giving Rangers their first victory of the season.

Rangers will remain in Owerri until Sunday for their Matchday 4 fixture against Kun Khalifat. The club will subsequently begin its campaign at Awka City Stadium when it hosts Ranchers Bees of Kaduna in Matchday 5.

The move to Awka is expected to provide Rangers with a temporary home venue while renovation work continues at the historic Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
