Michael Makwal, Chairman of the group, conveyed this message during a meeting in Jos with youths from all 17 Local Government Areas.
DAILYPOST notes that the protests in the state were hijacked by some hoodlums, who turned them violent and used the chaos to loot public and private properties in Jos.
As a result, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru area.
Makwal emphasized that instead of joining the protests, youths should support the government’s efforts to deliver on democratic promises.
“The Plateau Larger House is a forum of former Plateau Youth Council (PYC) leaders, with over 30 years of history. While informal, our role is to mentor and guide the younger generation in preserving Plateau’s peace and integrity,” Makwal said.
He added, “We do not want any protests that disrupt the state’s peaceful coexistence, which is why we advise Plateau youths to avoid these nationwide demonstrations. Many peaceful protests often escalate into lawlessness and property destruction.”
Makwal also called on Plateau citizens, regardless of their religious, political, or ethnic backgrounds, to support the current administration for its success. “The time for political debates has passed; now is the time for effective governance. We need to set aside differences and fully support the government,” he urged.
Regarding the upcoming PYC elections, Makwal advised youths to follow zoning arrangements and elect individuals with proven integrity to office.
