Representatives Demand Action On Washed-Out Bridge Stranding Gombe, Adamawa TravelersThe House of Representatives has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently repair the washed-out bridge along the Gombe-Numan road, which is hindering commuters’ travel to other states in the North East Zone.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This resolution was reached after Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Lauri, representing the Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, moved a motion of urgent public importance on Wednesday. He highlighted the damage caused to the bridge due to recent heavy rainfall.

Lauri explained that severe flooding in parts of Adamawa State led to the destruction of a bridge in the Boshikiri Community on September 19, 2024. Commuters have faced significant travel difficulties for several days, adversely affecting socio-economic activities in the northeast region. Compounding the issue, a temporary route established for travelers also collapsed on October 6, 2024.

He stated, “The collapsed bridge has severely disrupted commercial activities along the road, resulting in significant losses of life, livestock, and goods, as well as causing trauma and stress. Emergency medical patients are at risk of fatal delays as trucks transporting perishable goods and livestock remain stranded.”

Lauri also expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the ongoing construction of the Numan-Gombe road.

In response, the House has tasked its Committee on Works with ensuring the swift reconstruction of the washed-out bridge and addressing the delays in the completion of the Numan-Gombe road project, emphasizing the importance of safety and economic prosperity for the northeast and the nation as a whole.
