This concern was conveyed by Brig.-Gen. Wiito Nzidee, Acting Director of Supply and Transport Services at Army Headquarters, Department of Army Logistics (DOAL), during a sensitization visit to Rivers State on Tuesday. The purpose of the visit was to encourage stakeholders and leaders in the region to motivate their youths to pursue careers in the military.

Nzidee highlighted that Rivers State has been lagging behind other South-South states in terms of representation in recent Army recruitments, with the state failing to utilize its recruitment quota. He noted that the COAS is worried about this development and has deployed teams to the region to raise awareness and encourage youth participation in the ongoing recruitment drive.

“The Chief of Army Staff, in his wisdom, has sent us to deliver this message to the people of not only the Niger Delta but also Rivers State, that you are not utilizing your quota in the Nigerian Army,” Nzidee said.

As a native of the region, Nzidee emphasized the importance of encouraging young people in the Niger Delta to consider a career in the military. He pointed out that underrepresentation is particularly pronounced in the Niger Delta and Southeast, stressing the need for continued efforts to address the issue.
