Reps Raise Concerns Over Motion For Free WAEC, NECO, JAMB Exams

This rejection occurred as Anamero Dekeri’s motion, which called for the federal government to waive fees for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB for the upcoming academic year, faced opposition from lawmakers.
It’s worth noting that this situation unfolded amid public criticism of lawmakers’ plans to purchase expensive official vehicles.
In his motion, Dekeri suggested that the funds saved by the federal government through the removal of the petroleum subsidy should be redirected to assist struggling families.
He specifically urged the Ministry of Education to eliminate registration fees for the 2023 and 2024 WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations, with the aim of providing direct relief to the average citizen in response to the fuel subsidy removal.
Nevertheless, members of the House of Representatives expressed their disagreement with this proposal. The Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, proposed an amendment to have lawmakers allocate funds for these examinations, but this suggestion was contested by Ado Doguwa, who argued that members were already covering these fees.
