Mohammed argued that Wike’s actions and loyalties already indicate alignment with the APC and suggested it would be more appropriate for him to make his association official.
Accusing the former Rivers State Governor of anti-party activities, Mohammed described Wike’s alleged attempts to tarnish his image as desperate and ineffective, emphasizing that Nigerians could see through what he called the minister’s pretense.
Earlier, Mohammed had criticized Wike as a “transactional politician” whose loyalty shifts to suit his personal ambitions.
In response, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, dismissed the allegations, accusing Mohammed of failing to provide effective leadership as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Olayinka further suggested that Mohammed was using Wike’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu as an excuse for his shortcomings.
In a follow-up statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed condemned Wike’s remarks as reckless and indicative of a declining political reputation. He accused Wike of betraying numerous political allies, including Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
The statement also described Wike’s leadership style as “use-and-dump,” alleging that he played a significant role in destabilizing the PDP by orchestrating the removal of successive party leaders, such as Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.
“Let Nyesom Wike be reminded that while he exists in a delusional, self-created world of imagined splits and factions within the PDP, the party remains resolute and united, aside from a few turncoats like him, who are desperately working to weaken it for the APC’s benefit,” the statement read.
