In a statement marking the International Day of Education, the Labour Party Senator highlighted the theme, ‘AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,’ as a rallying point for prioritizing education as a fundamental right and tool for progress.
“As we join the global community to celebrate the International Day of Education, we are reminded that education is the foundation upon which nations rise, societies thrive, and individuals unlock their full potential. It is not only a pathway to personal growth but also a cornerstone for national development, innovation, and equity,” Kingibe stated.
The Senator reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening educational institutions in the FCT to address 21st-century challenges, while lamenting the disparities in the education system across the capital. She pointed out issues such as underqualified teachers, poor infrastructure, and inadequate resources as major setbacks for learning in her constituency.
“Despite education’s transformative potential, millions of children and young adults in Nigeria still lack access to quality learning environments. In the FCT, children in underserved communities face the dual burden of urban and rural disparities, exacerbated by poor infrastructure, unqualified teachers, and insufficient resources. This situation undermines our aspirations as a nation and requires urgent, collective action,” Kingibe noted.
She further called on all stakeholders, including the government, parents, private institutions, and the broader community, to work together to address these challenges and promote inclusive education.
“Education is a shared responsibility. While the government plays a critical role, the collective effort of all stakeholders is essential to building a robust, accessible, and equitable educational system,” she added.
