Revealed: The Reason Behind Awujale’s Visit To President Tinubu In Lagos

New insights have surfaced regarding the meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Awujale of Ijebu Land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II.

On Sunday, President Tinubu hosted the revered monarch at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. According to a statement from the Awujale’s palace, the visit was to allow the traditional ruler to personally express his gratitude to the President for conferring on him Nigeria’s second-highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

The statement, signed by Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, quoted the Awujale as saying, “The conferment of the GCON on me was a great honor, and I am truly grateful to the President and the Federal Government.”

The private meeting provided the monarch with an opportunity to extend his appreciation in person. It is worth recalling that President Tinubu awarded the GCON title to Oba Adetona in May 2024 during the monarch’s 90th birthday celebration.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7. This was confirmed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
