Inspector Osang met his untimely end while returning to his residence in the Afahaube and Enen Afaha areas. The hoodlums, spotting him on the street, decided to brutally murder him. Shockingly, after the heinous act, the perpetrators displayed a lack of urgency, calmly walking away without evoking suspicion.
Eyewitnesses reported that the armed gang had fired shots into the air, creating panic among passersby and residents before executing the police officer. This incident adds to a grim tally, with at least five people meeting a similar fate at the hands of these criminals in January alone.
Last week, a headless woman’s body was discovered around the Banking Layout, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo. Additionally, the lifeless body of another woman was found in a refuse dump in Afaha Ube, Itam community, earlier this week. Reports indicate that the situation is escalating, as a dismembered body of a young woman was discovered in a Ghana-must-Go bag by the roadside at Nwaniba, Uyo metropolis, this week.
Beyond these horrifying killings, Akwa Ibom State faced kidnapping incidents in 2023. State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, confirmed Inspector Osang’s murder, expressing the commitment to investigate and eliminate criminal elements from the streets.
Governor Pastor Umo Eno, expressing concern over the situation, issued a stern warning to the perpetrators. He revealed credible intelligence suggesting support from certain individuals to disrupt the existing peace in the state. Governor Eno assured the public of a new security architecture in the coming months, emphasizing the state’s commitment to ensuring safety.
Amidst growing concerns, citizens urge the state government and security agencies to take decisive actions to prevent the security situation from becoming overwhelming.
