The senator appealed to the youth of the state, especially those from the Ijaw Nation and across the Niger Delta, to remain peaceful and avoid responding to provocations or calls to violence.
He further urged young people to steer clear of any acts of violence or destruction, particularly targeting critical oil and gas infrastructure in the region. He emphasized that such actions would only worsen the environmental damage already afflicting the area.
Speaking on the role of the President, Dickson stated that the Ijaw Nation is not in conflict with the Federal Government or President Bola Tinubu. Rather, they look to him as a national leader capable of resolving the ongoing crisis and restoring peace, stability, and democratic governance.
“I want to make it clear that the Ijaw Nation holds no hostility toward the President or the APC-led Federal Government. In fact, the Niger Delta and the Ijaw people have always supported the vision of a restructured, truly federal Nigeria—one that ensures proper power devolution, rapid infrastructural and human development, environmental justice, and equity for all citizens. On these matters, we see the President as a potential ally, based on his track record, and not an adversary—regardless of political affiliations or contrary narratives,” Dickson stated.
