Rivers Crisis: Wike, Fubara Camps Finally Reach Stunning Breakthrough
Efforts to reconcile the rival political camps of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reportedly gained fresh momentum.
Members of the reconciliation committee met with Governor Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday, marking the second meeting between the governor and the Magnus Abe-led committee within two weeks.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt and circulated to journalists on Sunday.
The Rainbow Coalition also assured members of the various political camps that no one would be victimised or discriminated against as part of the ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state.
The group said the emerging atmosphere of reconciliation would ensure that all members were treated equally, fairly and with respect, regardless of previous political differences.
Speaking after the meeting, committee chairman Magnus Abe said the discussions focused on finding lasting solutions to the political crisis and promoting unity in Rivers State.
Abe urged Rivers people to take note of the new political direction emerging in the state, describing the outcome of the meeting as a major step towards reconciliation.
He said the committee had reached broad agreement and made significant progress, adding that the renewed cooperation among the various political actors represented a major shift in the state’s political atmosphere.
According to him, the development should come as good news to Rivers residents who desire unity, progress and prosperity, stressing that the long-awaited peace was finally within reach.
Also speaking, the South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Samuel Nwanosike, who was part of the delegation, thanked Governor Fubara for welcoming the committee and providing an opportunity for the parties to engage as brothers.
Nwanosike expressed optimism about the outcome of the latest meeting, describing it as even more successful than the previous one.
He said the development demonstrated that the political family in Rivers State was coming together again and that residents would soon begin to witness the impact of the Rainbow Coalition.
He added that the coalition was committed to ensuring that the people of Rivers State enjoyed the dividends of democracy they had long been expecting.
