Rivers Judiciary Announces Start Date For Christmas VacationThe Rivers State High Court will begin its Christmas vacation on Monday, December 23, 2024, and will resume court proceedings on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The announcement noted that the holiday schedule aligns with Order 49, Rule 4C of the Rivers High Court of Civil Procedures Rules, 2023. During the vacation period, a vacation judge will be available to handle urgent matters, while the regular court sessions will resume on Friday, January 10, 2025.

In related news, the Federal High Court of Nigeria is set to begin its Christmas vacation on Monday, December 16, 2024. Regular court sessions are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, with all judicial divisions of the Federal High Court across the country reopening. A circular issued by the Chief Judge of the Court, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, confirmed that the judges will return to their duties on Monday, January 6, 2025.

This vacation period follows Order 46, Rule 4(C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended). During the break, the three primary judicial divisions—Abuja, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt—will remain operational for urgent cases. Only matters related to the enforcement of fundamental rights, the arrest or release of vessels, and issues of national importance will be addressed by vacation judges.

In the Abuja division, Justices Emeka Nwite and M. S. Liman will serve as vacation judges, while Justices Akintayo Aluko and Isaac Dipeolu will preside over cases in the Lagos division.
