Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, has issued a bold challenge to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, affirming his refusal to step down from his position as his tenure ends on June 16…………CONTINUE READING
In a direct message to the governor via video, Nwanosike expressed his intention to prolong his tenure, citing a legislative extension granted by state lawmakers led by Martin Amaghule. This extension, according to Nwanosike, is warranted due to the state government’s failure to conduct local government elections.
Defiantly, Nwanosike declared his intent to maintain his position and cautioned that the residents of Ikwerre LG would resist any attempt to oust him.
He proclaimed, “Let them attempt to remove me if they dare. The countdown begins—only 23 days left.”
Nwanosike challenged the legitimacy of those questioning Amaghule’s authority as Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly. He argued that Amaghule’s stance, rooted in the governor’s neglect to facilitate local government elections, validates his continued occupancy of the office.
“We are sending a message to those issuing threats, dictating what to wear or how to behave. In Ikwerre local government, we adhere to our customs. Should anyone defy the law, we will be prepared. The law of Nigeria is the law endorsed by Martin Amaghule. If you have the courage, reveal yourself. Thank you,” Nwanosike asserted.
Nwanosike’s unwavering stance suggests a looming standoff between local and state authorities as the deadline approaches.
