Reports indicate that the officers had been involved in this unlawful activity for an extended period. According to a statement from SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, the arrested officers—Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau—were caught engaging in corrupt practices against innocent motorists beneath the Rumuokoro Flyover.
“The Rivers State Police Command has taken decisive action against these officers after a coordinated monitoring patrol by the CP Monitoring Unit on October 29, 2024,” the statement read. The operation, which took place around 3 PM under the flyover, resulted in the immediate arrest of the three officers.
Notably, Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau were found committing this unprofessional conduct while out of uniform, further violating police regulations. Their actions were captured on video by a bystander, providing clear evidence of their misconduct.
During a prompt on-site investigation, the officers were searched, and the money collected from the motorists was recovered, reflecting a swift commitment to maintaining ethical standards within the Rivers State Police Command.
The officers are currently in detention, awaiting disciplinary measures. The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its dedication to upholding professional integrity and assured the public that any personnel found violating service principles will face consequences.
