The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has issued a stern warning against any attempt to remove Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing such actions as unconstitutional and bound to fail.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a press release signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA stressed that Governor Fubara was democratically elected by the people of Rivers and any efforts to unseat him through illegitimate means would face strong opposition from the public.

Warning to Nyesom Wike and Lawmakers

HURIWA specifically urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to cease his alleged attempts to influence 27 lawmakers loyal to him in the Rivers State House of Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

The group stated, “In times of political instability, it is the people who suffer the most as governance is disrupted and key development projects are delayed.”

HURIWA further advised Wike to adopt a statesman-like approach, rather than engaging in divisive political tactics. It stressed that Wike, having served as Rivers State governor for eight years, should focus on uniting the state instead of fostering instability.

“Wike, as a senior member of President Bola Tinubu’s government, should position himself as a national leader and not as the center of intra-state political conflict. Encouraging an impeachment move could destabilize Rivers, and history will not look kindly on such actions,” HURIWA warned.

Call for Peace and Stability

The group reminded political actors that Rivers State’s well-being is far more important than personal interests. It urged leaders to prioritize governance, security, and the welfare of citizens over personal ambitions.

“We call on all political players to prioritize the collective interests of Rivers State and avoid actions that would undermine peace and stability,” the group added.

Neutrality of Security Agencies

HURIWA also called on security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS), to remain neutral in the ongoing crisis and not be used as tools for unconstitutional actions.

“The security forces must fulfill their constitutional duties to maintain law and order without taking sides in political conflicts. We caution against any situation where federal security agencies are seen as partisan players in the political crisis in Rivers,” the group stated.

Judiciary Under Threat

Finally, HURIWA condemned the recent allegations of age falsification against the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi, calling them a desperate attempt to manipulate the judiciary for political purposes.
