The protesters, marching towards the Rivers State Government House, voiced deep dissatisfaction over the political developments in the state, insisting on the return of their democratically elected leader. They held placards with powerful messages such as “Bring Back Fubara,” “Is the Law Different for Rivers State?”, “God of Justice, Arise for Rivers State,” “Save Our Democracy,” and “End Injustice, Bring Back Our Governor.”

Identifying themselves as “mothers and wives,” the women emphasized their commitment to justice and the defense of democratic values in the state.

In a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Tinubu, the protesters called for the full restoration of democratic institutions in Rivers State, beginning with the reinstatement of Governor Fubara.

They condemned the current political climate, labeling Fubara’s suspension and the declaration of a state of emergency as “an unconstitutional military-style takeover disguised as emergency rule.”

This protest follows the controversial suspension of Governor Fubara in March 2025, after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers. The suspension affected not just the governor but also his deputy and all members of the State House of Assembly — a move widely criticized for undermining democratic norms.
