Despite various measures previously implemented to tackle the security challenges, Abbas highlighted the unabated nature of the security situation. He underscored the necessity of exploring fresh approaches, citing the inadequacy of conventional methods that have been advocated for an extended period.

Addressing the gravity of the situation, the Speaker expressed concern about the persistent threats of insurgency, the surge in kidnapping for ransom, and the unrest across all six geo-political zones. He empathized with families and communities enduring significant hardships due to these tumultuous events.

Moreover, Abbas mourned the tragic deaths of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and Folorunsho Ariyo at the hands of kidnappers, the Plateau massacre that claimed over 100 lives, and the victims of the recent blast in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a direct plea to President Tinubu, the Speaker urged for heightened performance and accountability from service chiefs and all security and enforcement agencies. Abbas implored the President not to shy away from making tough decisions and emphasized the importance of enacting changes within the security apparatus if deemed necessary, emphasizing that the cost of inaction is too significant to bear.
