Sad News Hits PDP As Former National Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the prominent businessman and veteran Nigerian politician passed away on Saturday at his residence in Abuja following a prolonged illness.

His family confirmed the death to TRT Afrika, bringing to an end the life of a politician who played significant roles in Nigeria’s political and governmental history.

Tukur, who served as governor of the former Gongola State during the Second Republic, later held the position of Minister of Industries under the military administration of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

The late politician was also known to have harboured presidential ambitions before eventually becoming a major figure within the PDP. His tenure as the party’s National Chairman placed him at the centre of several important political developments and leadership decisions.

A prominent businessman and influential political figure, Tukur remained active in national affairs for several decades and was regarded as one of the country’s veteran political actors.

He is survived by 17 children. His remains are expected to be buried on Saturday at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa in Yola, Adamawa State, according to arrangements announced by the family.
